OHDSI National Node Switzerland

Background

We are committed to building a robust and comprehensive semantic layer for clinical data at the hospital level, serving as a foundational resource for data-driven research and the advancement of precision medical care. This vision has guided our efforts to identify and implement tools that align with the goals of the Swiss Personalized Health Network, while actively seeking to expand our international collaborations. Our primary objective is to enable seamless interoperability and secure data sharing of health-relevant information to facilitate research both within Switzerland and globally. In pursuit of this, we have successfully developed a project-specific implementation of the OMOP Common Data Model (CDM) at Inselspital Bern and are now embarking on the next phase in collaboration with a consortium of leading Swiss institutions.

In parallel, two collaborative initiatives - the ACROSS project and a CARESCORE project funded by the Research Project  Digitalisation Commission (DigK) at the University of Bern - are currently underway. Both initiatives propose leveraging the OMOP CDM as the foundational framework for scalable, cross-institutional data sharing and research.

Objectives

  • Strong Semantic Layer
  • Ensure Data Interoperability from the first entry point
  • Building Expertise in Terminologies
  • Medical Decision Support and Research
